A new feature added to Killink CSV v1.1 is the ability to control how and when quotes are used to enclose a value. Two options are available:

* Enclose value with quotes when the value contains a NUL character, a quote character, or a delimiter character.
* Enclose value with quotes when the value contains a non-printable character, a space character, a quote character, or a delimiter character.

The second quote option is the default and it is the recommended setting. This will ensure greater compatibility with other CSV applications and parsers.

The new option can be found in the Options dialog (press F8 or select Tools > Options from the menu) under the section titled File Types > Default Settings.

I forgot to mention, this new option is applied when a delimited text file is saved. The setting has no impact when opening a file because Killink CSV determines how quotes are used as the file contents are read.

I downloaded this software because Excel sucks at handling Tab Delimited files. It always wants to put " around the text, when the text does not contain any delimiters - the only reason I'd want ""'s around the text.

(It also converts the Spread sheet into the 'saved as' file as being the current open file. Thus to have the spread sheet as the master, I needed to do:
1. Save changes to spread sheet.
2 Save as to .TSV file (Tab Separated File)
3. Close the file. (asks to save again.)
4 Reopen original spread sheet.)

Edit the dang thing and remote the stinking "'s that it left all through the file. And worse, those inside the text were converted from " to ""

Guess, what? There isn't an option in your software to avoid this issue either! Gaahh! I have HTML product descriptions that can contain anything (except tabs) that are read into a program to load up my product definitions. Right now, they look like crud because it put "s around everything - including simple names such as "Rune Cubes" - which just hosed up my databases too - creating extra records for these new ones with the quotes.

Any chance you are going to add an option "Don't quote." to your list? Or, at least "Don't quote unless there is a delimiter"?

Also, it would sure be nice if I could double click on the cell and have it bring it up in a textbox that I can change the size of... I have 1940x1200 pixels to work with and have to edit the text in a single line across the screen.. Yeech..

That's an interesting feature. I like it. It will be included in one of the next two releases, either 1.2 or 1.3.

Thanks,

I have added a basic popup cell editor in the latest beta for version 1.2. Click here for more information and the download URL.
