Get Started:
Begin using SMTP Diagnostics by entering your email address and outgoing mail server name in the Basic Settings section of the main window and click the "Run Diagnostics" button found in the toolbar. This will send a test email message to your email address. Communication messages between your computer and the mail server will be listed in the Diagnostics Report section found at the bottom of the main window. Note: You will see the test email message in your Inbox if the test message successfully sends.
SMTP Security:
Many outgoing mail (SMTP) servers require some level of authentication. Typically, authentication is put in place to prevent others from sending spam mail from your mail server. If your outgoing mail server requires authentication, mark the check box next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and provide the appropriate credentials as required by your server. Contact your mail administrator if you are unsure of or do not know your credentials.
Override From and To Addresses:
By default SMTP Diagnostics will use the email address found in the Basic Settings as the From and To addresses used in the test email message. However, there maybe times when you wish to use different addresses. To use a different From or To address, mark the "Override From and To addresses" check box and enter the desired From and To email addresses. You can also change the default Subject and Message text used in the test email.
Using an SMTP Profile:
SMTP Diagnostics gives you the ability to save SMTP profiles. Saved profiles can be opened and used later by SMTP Diagnostics. You can also copy previously saved profiles to other machines for use on those machines.
To save a profile, select the Save Profile or Save Profile As menu item found under the File menu. In the File name box, enter a new name for the profile. Click Save.
To open a profile, select the Open Profile menu item found under the File menu. In the Look in list, click the drive or folder location that contains the file you want to open. In the folder list, locate and open the folder that contains the file. Click the file, and then click Open.
To reset the settings to the default profile, select the New Profile menu item found under the File menu.
